I can’t hold my tongue any longer.
Amigo, I’m fairly certain nobody said you have to be an educator. You don’t have to hold that position. If you want to teach, so be it, that’s the path you’ve chosen. You don’t get health insurance? Buy it. Get another job or get a different job and buy it yourself. That’s what a member of my family had to do. That’s what people do. You don’t like where you’re at? Change it. … and after a quick Google search, the average adjunct professor earns about $49,000 per year. Little better than minimum wage, right?
Listen, I think it’s great that you want to spend your life educating others. That’s a very noble cause, but with that said, you also know what being a teacher entails. You knew going into this that teachers don’t make the greatest wages and in some lines of work, you wouldn’t be supported (through the American taxpayers in public education systems) with health insurance and vacation days.
I don’t know exactly what you hope will come of being part of the “99%,” but I certainly hope you’re not looking for government to say “oh, the outrage!” and gift you what you think you deserve.
Sorry I’m not sorry.

I don’t think its that he does not have this stuff he is mad, it is because he is forced to be and “adjunct contractor” with out those benefits. Its ridiculous a system would expect him to do all the same work as a professor, yet he is compensated less than a professor. Also the “adjunct contractor” position is supposed to be a temporary position. And this guy above acts like you can just go out and ask the job fairy for a new job, it does not work that way. And I know for a fact that the lady above me has been very entitled and still does not work to support herself and her parents pay for her rent. I am absolutely positive about this, because I know her personally. It’s funny how someone so privileged can shrug off something like.
You don’t know which part of the above statement that I am agreeing or disagreeing with, so I don’t know how you think that I am shrugging this off. The part that I was agreeing with is that in being the “99%” the government is not going to realize their faults and award everyone what they deserve and what is necessary to survive. I support the destruction of the top percentage of wealth. But I do not think that corporations or even greed is something that we’ll ever be rid of. Not to mention, I can hardly say that you know me, considering that I work my ass off at my job and at school each week. I have NEVER said that I am not privileged, and I am very lucky to have such supportive parents. Living in my apartment is thousands of dollars cheaper than living on campus, or the amount of gas it would take me to commute every day of the week. If I wasn’t in the position that I am in, I would be living at home, continuing to work as hard as I do.
